My husband and I resigned our jobs in Japan two years ago, and were travelling the world ever since… until I got pregnant with our first child.
I was shocked at the beginning, because as much as I love kids, I was not prepared to stop travelling yet. I’m currently close to my sixth-month of pregnancy, but now that we’ve had time to assume the new situation and do some research, we feel that there may be a way to combine parenthood and long-term travelling.
And surprisingly today… tadaaaa!! This blog post came through!!
Amanda’s experiences confirm what we suspected — as challenging as it might be, it definitely is not impossible, especially the way how we travel, which is also at a very slow pace and similar to what she describes as “living in another culture, and not vacationing”.
I just got excited again — thanks, Matt and Amanda, for making my day!!
Cheers from Tokyo and soon, Spain 🙂
]]>My favorite bit was: We become hell-bent on proving that we are “travelers” and not “tourists,” as if one term means we are authentic and doing it right, while the other categorizes us as displaced, unadventurous failures. Shedding these falsehoods was freeing. I learned that it’s OK to take the tour and get off the beaten path.
I think there can be a bit of snobbery on some travel blogs I read about being above the “touristy stuff” and foregoing these things just to prove they are smarter than the average tourist/traveler. It only results in cutting off your nose to spite your face.
I really like Amanda’s attitude toward travel.
