Matt, your comments are a perfect realization of what I, too, have just decided after flying home on AA to NE Wisconsin from a wonderful stay in Tucson. The flight attendants were not nearly as good as Walmart greeters, the airplanes were the equivalent of a sub-compact economy car with many miles, and after paying a high ticket price, I still had the $70 extra for a small duffle bag and golf clubs! Oh, and because I flew on an excursion economy fare, I was boarded in Group 9, snagging the last back seat, meaning too that.I was the last person off the airplane in DFW. Our flight to Milwaukee was changed; we had to go upstairs again and take the tram again to still a different terminal where a new aircraft was
brought over because of AA’s perpetual maintenance issues. But I landed in Milwaukee only an hour late after midnight with a 3 hour drive.to my home! For ALL future flights, it’s Southwest Airlines for me, unless it’s Europe…then it’s Delta.

Try being loyal to Southwest Airlines… They are the ONLY airline that GETS IT !!!! Many times when I change a flight last minute I get money back ;). American and Delta are ridiculous…

You’re A-List status will get you a good seat, and you can qualify for a companion pass!!!

Thank you for your refreshing honestly, while other travel blogs are touting how awesome it is travel in business class and having elite status. What started to bother me is I realized most of the travel hackers were booking these super long flights usually transpacific flights on partner carriers just to rack up miles, which to them translates to upgrades and status meanwhile the rest of average people are blowing of additional hundreds of dollars just to sit together, and since I’m doing that might as well go premium economy for that that 35 inches of seat space instead of 31 or less.

So coming from the other end of the spectrum as this year I’m from American to United, all I can say is this, it’s dollars that matter and not distance.

If I had to pay more money for my trip the guy next to me, I should certainly be attaining perks faster on the guy that took two flights to Asia or Oceania in a year and calls it good. As for the airlines, you’re right they don’t care about us.

I can’t agree more. Now, starting Nov 1, you have to be a paid member of the Admiral club, paying $500 for membership and you should fly American Airlines or any world alliances to access the club. So, for example, if you are a member, but you flew any other airlines that are not part of American, for example, Southwest, United, Delta, then you can’t access the lounge. They have that posted at the entrance of the club. I wish I can post the picture here. I believe they should refund the membership back to the people if they desires to cancel their membership. Don’t you think so!

AA has rendered their loyalty program useless to most travelers. I agree the best thing to do is be loyal to none and fly based on cheapest price alone.
