Hostels in Sydney<\/a> are expensive. <\/p>\n Since I started visiting the city, I\u2019ve seen hostel prices skyrocket as just the cost of living in Australia has gone up<\/a>. Even when you factor in the favorable exchange rate, it\u2019s expensive to get a bed here, especially at some of the larger, more upscale hostels. <\/p>\n However, with a little planning, you can make sure you\u2019re getting the most bang for your buck. <\/p>\n The cheapest hostels in Sydney are found in the King\u2019s Cross area, which is where I usually prefer to stay. (But make sure you avoid the Jolly Swagman! It\u2019s a horrible place to stay!)<\/p>\n To help you plan your trip, here is my list of the best hostels in Sydney. \nFormerly Hump Backpackers, I like this hostel because it\u2019s social. The staff hosts plenty of activities (like beer pong, BBQs, and pancake breakfasts) that make meeting people a breeze here. There\u2019s free breakfast, all-day coffee and tea, and different activities every night. I like that the beds are comfy and soft, that the showers are kept clean (always a big plus), and that the room lockers are huge. Mad Monkey East Side is in the Kings Cross area, surrounded by restaurants, shops, and bars so there’s a bunch of things to do in the area. It’s one of the cheapest hostels on this list, perfect for budget travelers.<\/p>\n\n
\n <\/p>\n2. Mad Monkey Bayswater<\/a><\/h3>\n

\nThis is another fun hostel with a very lively social scene, making it a great choice for solo travelers. There\u2019s a party every night, a movie room, yoga classes, and a rooftop BBQ. Take the spiral staircase to the basement, and you’ll find a fully-equipped chill out zone with pool tables and even a PlayStation gaming area. Honestly, there’s so much to do at this hostel you might find it difficult to leave \u2014 but just beyond the front door are some of Sydney’s best bars, clubs, and restaurants. If you want to party, stay here. Just note that you have to be 18 to 35 to stay here. <\/p>\n\n
\n <\/p>\n3. Sydney Harbor YHA<\/a><\/h3>\n

\nThis is the only hostel in the city’s historic harborside area (The Rocks), with unreal rooftop panoramic views over the city and the famous Opera House. Sydney Harbor Bridge, Sydney Harbor, and Luna Park are also within walking distance. The rooms are incredibly spacious, and each bed comes with its own reading light. There’s also a large kitchen, several communal areas (including the excellent rooftop terrace), and even a grocery store on-site. It’s a good choiec for anyone who wants to stay in a cool area away from the rambunctious Kings Cross area.<\/p>\n\n
