Zebra People is a specialist digital consultancy that supplies and manages individuals and agile teams across both the public and commercial sector. Over the last five years, Zebra People have contributed to the successful delivery of more than 70 services across Government.
Julianne Bowman is a user researcher and service designer.
Walt Buchan is a service designer and user researcher. Walt has led teams as Director of Research at cxpartners and Principal User Researcher at Nationwide Building Society amongst others. As a service designer, he’s worked with L&C Mortgages, University of Auckland and TVNZ. As a user researcher, he’s worked with Google and Defra, amongst many others. He’s spoken at international and national UX conferences, is a peer reviewer for Smashing Magazine, and mentors students and colleagues. Most recently Walt’s work has focused on integrating user centred design practices into enterprises as they adopt scaled Agile operating models.
Ben Bywater is a user researcher. Ben has worked on a number of government services at the Department for Transport and DEFRA over the past four years (Street works, Clean Air Zones, Ivory, Future Farming Grants) and before that for several world leading UX agencies (Flow, CX Partners) and technology brands (Nokia, Microsoft). Ben is a passionate user advocate who ensures that teams keep users at the heart of their thinking and delivery. Ben has spoken at a number of UX conferences and was the technical editor for Smashing UX Design: Foundations for Designing Online User Experiences.
Liz Griffin is a content designer.
Sam Groves is a design researcher. Sam has worked as a Lead Design Researcher at Disclosure Scotland, Senior User Researcher at both Ministry of Justice and Scottish Environmental Protection Agency amongst others. She has extensive experience of working with a range of users including vulnerable and hard-to-reach groups. Sam is passionate about user centred design, influencing behaviour change within organisations and through public speaking.
Vero is a user researcher and a UX consultant with a passion for inclusive design and accessibility. Vero led and executed research programmes for clients like easyJet, BBC, Facebook, Marie Curie, VISA and Vodafone. In the public sector, Vero has worked at the Ministry of Justice and the Department for Education. Vero has led teams of design researchers and helped organisations design careers around company values.
Mia Kos is a service designer and user researcher. She has worked with many multi-disciplinary teams, helping them develop products and services that are easy to understand, access and use. She has experience navigating complex and highly regulated organisations and has worked with a variety of senior stakeholders. Mia has completed many research and design projects. She interviewed cancer patients and helped to design services that make living with cancer easier and she spoke to people serving a prison sentence to design services that help them maintain relationships with family and friends. Most recently Mia’s work has been focused on helping the Office of National Statistics to adopt a user-centered design approach to product and service design. She believes every good design project starts with a conversation.
Jim Kosem is a product and service designer and consultant who has worked in UK government digital transformation, top Fortune 500s such as Intel and Samsung, and academia. He’s focused on making data usable and liveable through design, research and strategy.
Andrew Millar is a designer and researcher. Andrew has worked in senior roles for Her Majesty’s Prison Service, Home Office and Ministry of Justice. Andrew has led the design of public and private sector services across a wide range of industries, delivering evidenced-based solutions that meet user needs and achieve business goals.
Martin Oliver is a content designer. He’s worked at the Ministry of Justice as Head of Content Design, growing and developing the content design team from 5 to more than 20 specialists. Before that, he has occupied senior content roles in digital consultancies and a number of London agencies. From developing vision pieces for John Lewis and Barclays to delivering ambitious programmes for HIlton Hotels, Virgin Media and The White Company, he likes nothing better than rolling up his sleeves and getting stuck into highly productive team work.
Raj Panjwani is a designer and researcher. For the past four years Raj has worked at the heart of user-centred policy design within government, at the Ministry of Justice and Department for Education. Before that he was design director at Sense Worldwide where he helped clients like Nike, Sonos, Samsung and S.C. Johnson approach the design of their brands, products and services in a more user-centred way.
Nic Price is a designer and researcher.
Pete Smith is a designer with product management experience. Pete started in the private sector before moving across to public sector work with a few digital start ups in between. He was creative director at Global Radio, responsible for digital and brand design across their portfolio of brands including Xfm, Classic FM and Capital Radio. He was design lead for the NHS website and the NHS referral service. Pete was the product manager for the Discovery, Alpha and Beta phases of the Scottish Government’s mygov.scot, before returning to design as a lead interaction designer for HM Revenue and Customs, the Co-op and service designer for Defra. Pete enjoys helping people understand the value of designing for users. He likes working with all levels of a business to shape services that meet user needs and expectations.
Matthew Solle is a designer. Since 2013, Matthew has worked across government departments including Ministry of Justice, Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs and Home Office including being the Head of Design at Ministry of Justice Digital between 2017-2019. He has also partnered with Intel's Open Source Technology Centre, helped introduce user centred design into the heart of trading applications at various banks including Société Générale, as well as worked with The Guardian, Google and Royal Mail.
Andrew Travers is a designer and researcher. Andrew has led teams as Head of Digital Design at The Co-op, Head of Interaction Design at Home Office and Interim Head of Design at HM Revenue and Customs amongst others. As a designer he’s worked with The Guardian, Pearson and Method. He is the author of ‘Interviewing for research: a pocket guide to design research’. Most recently Andrew’s work has focused on design operations and building design teams.
Simon Whatley is a service designer and creative technologist. Simon has worked as a lead designer at Government Digital Service and Ministry of Justice. Prior to working in government, he led teams across a variety of industries, for a number of organisations (in-house and agency-side) and across a broad range of platforms (desktop and mobile; Android, iOS and Web). He has been a web developer, conference organiser, trainer of both web development and user experience design, and a lead service designer. Most recently, Simon’s work has focused on design operations and design systems.
Gavin Wye is a designer and researcher. Gavin has worked as a lead designer at Government Digital Service, Ministry of Justice, and HM Revenue and Customs. Gavin has helped departments within the UK Government build strong multidisciplinary design teams, and designed digital services. Prior to his time in government, he led the redesign of virginmoney.com. Gavin delivers impactful working software to users as early as possible, meeting their needs, continuously improving and iterating based on user research.--
